RASAM RECIPE – RASAM SOUTH INDIAN SOUP – CHAARU

Ingredients:
• MRT Rasam Powder – 2 tbsp
• Dal Water – (3 tbsp Tuvar Dal & 1 tsp Turmeric boiled in 3 Cups of Water)
• Tamarind Water – (Tamarind soaked in water)
• Tomato – 1 (finely chopped)
• Salt – as per taste
• Jaggery – 1 tsp
• Water – 1 Cup
• Hing (Asafoetida) – 1 pinch
• Garlic crushed – 6 Garlic Pods crushed
• Curry Leaves – 10 to 15
• Coriander – ½ Cup
• Ghee (Clarified Butter ) – 2 tbsp
• Rai (Mustard Seeds) – 1 tsp
• Methi seeds (Fenugreek Seeds) – ½ tsp
Method of Preparation:
• Heat up a Pan / Vessel. Add 1 Cup Water, chopped Tomatoes, Jaggery, Tamarind Water and Mix well.
• Now add 2 tbsp MTR Rasam Powder, Salt & Dal Water. Mix well. Simmer / cook for 10 to 15 mins on medium flame. We will add tempering after it is cooked.
• We have simmered it for 20 mins. Our Rasam is ready, we will now prepare tempering. We will now add ½ tsp Pepper Powder.
• In a tempering Pan / Small Pan – add Ghee (Clarified Butter). When the Ghee is hot, add Mustard Seeds. When Mustard seeds splutter, add Methi seeds (Fenugreek Seeds), Crushed Garlic, Hing ( Asafoetida), Dry Red Chillies & Curry Leaves. Our Tempering is ready. Switch off the Gas stove. Add this tempering to the above Rasam
• Our Rasam is ready. Serve it in a bowl and Garnish with Coriander….
• Enjoy this Rasam with Plain Rasam or Rasam Vada !!!
